Dive into Research @ Bochum University
Apply to this 5-weeks program and dive into your first research experience in Mathematics!
- The program takes place for 5 weeks August 25 to September 26, 2025.
- All Bachelor and Master students in Germany and Europe are invited to apply for participation.
- There will be multiple short courses, hands-on research sessions and discussions, and many more research activities.
- The course languages will be English and German.
We do not expect partiticpants to have any previous research experience!

Research projects
The three research topics will lie in the areas of
- Polyhedral Geometry (lead by JProf.'in Marie Brandenburg)
- Combinatorics in Representation Theory (lead by Prof.'in Karin Baur)
- Algebraic Combinatorics (lead by Prof. Christian Stump)
Applications
The deadline for applications is May 15, 2025 for full consideration, later applications can still be considered. To apply you need to be a Bachelor or Master student in Germany or Europe and submit the following documents:
- a motivation letter including your mathematical interests,
- a list of relevant prior experience or knowledge (e.g. attended lectures),
- contact information of a senior university member (e.g. your thesis supervisor or course lecturer) who agreed to write a letter of recommendation
Please clearly indicate in your motivation letter that you plan to participate in the full 5-weeks program, partial participation can only be granted in exceptional circumstances. The decisions for participations will be announced shortly after the application deadline.

Funding & Accommodation
Funding: All accepted participants
- will be provided accommodation for the 5 weeks of the program free of charge,
- will have their travel expenses to the course reimbursed (one ticket each direction), and
- will receive a research stipend of 200€ per week.
Accommodation: We have reserved small furnished studios between the city center of Bochum and the university campus for all non-local participants.
